Ascension Day
 Forty Days
After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to His disciples many times over a period of forty days. During that time He reminded them of all that He had taught them while they had followed Him.
Eventually, it was time for Him to return to heaven. Before He went, He gave them special instructions:
- They were to go into all the world, sharing the good news with everyone, about Jesus and what He has done to save people from their sins.
- However, before they launched out on this mission, they were to wait in Jerusalem until God had poured out on them the gift of the Holy Spirit. When they were filled with the Holy Spirit, then they would have the power to do what God wanted them to do.
Ascension Day
When the time came, Jesus led His disciples out of Jerusalem, to the Mount of Olives. He raised His hands and blessed them and, as He did so, He departed from them, going up into heaven until a cloud hid Him from their sight.
The book of Acts, written by St. Luke, tells us that, at that point, two men in white, probably angels, appeared promising the disciples that just as Jesus had gone from them, so one day He would return in the same manner.
