Today we write to you as ordinary people who have experienced the many ups and downs of life. We have had our financial problems; some have suffered the heartache and separation caused by bereavement; others have had to cope with problems within their own families; and there are those who have had to face the uncertainties of cancer and other illnesses.A Friend in Need
Whatever the difficulty, whatever the need, we can tell you today that our Lord Jesus Christ is the answer. When He walked this earth, He never had words of condemnation for people suffering the consequences of sin and failure. Again and again, he spoke words of forgiveness to those who came to Him, no matter who they were - from the cheats, thieves, adulterers, and prostitutes, to the ordinary, decent, law-abiding people. He offered cleansing and transformed lives. In fact, Jesus once said, "I am come that they might have life in all its abundance." None who accepted Him was ever the same again. From lives once so full of sin, failure, corruption and misery, there soon radiated goodness, wholeness and joy.If ever Jesus seemed stern it was when He sounded out a warning to the religious hypocrites who pretended to be what they were not. That is why, today, we want to share, not a religious system, but good news about a person, a Saviour who is alive - this same Lord Jesus Christ. He is the one, the only one, who bore the awful wrath of God upon sin when He died in our place on the cross. He rose again to give us life in all its fulness.
It is No Secret What God Can Do
Each one of us here at the Church at Gun Hill has a testimony of what Jesus has done in our lives. He has forgiven and cleansed us from the sins of the past. He has dealt with all the failure and loss that once kept us separate from God and life. He has freed us from the guilt of the past. He has taken away the misery and replaced it with a lasting joy; anxiety over the future is a thing of the past. Life is now worth living. It is full and abundant in the Lord Jesus.This business of the Christian life is not the dull, ceremonious stereotype that we have so often imagined it to be. It is living life to the full at a completely new level. That is exactly what the Bible promises:
